Syzygy Institute Certification
IFS-Informed EMDR has garnered significant interest among EMDR-trained clinicians and their clients. Certification through Syzygy Institute goes beyond a piece of paper; it represents a commitment to quality, skill, and depth of understanding essential for using these powerful approaches together.
Certification assures referring professionals and clients alike that Syzygy-trained clinicians have undergone a rigorous, standards-based program designed to integrate IFS and EMDR, along with principles of memory consolidation and Coherence Therapy techniques, thoughtfully and comprehensively.
Your certification signals to the community that you have not only mastered core techniques from each model but have also developed an integrated approach tailored to diverse client needs.
To maintain this level of excellence, we encourage clinicians to pursue foundational training in each modality alongside our in-depth integration coursework and consultation. This holistic approach to certification fosters true expertise, ensuring that certified therapists are equipped to provide transformative care grounded in both technical skill and deep integration of IFS and EMDR principles.
Certifications are for a two-year period. Re-certification will require additional specified CE hours during this period.
A certification upgrade is available when you qualify for Approved Consultant before your current Certified Therapist certification renewal date. It includes a renewal, extending your new certification for a two-year period, saving $50.
Any lapse or termination of qualifying credentials during your Syzygy certification period must be reported to Syzygy Institute, and will nullify Syzygy certification and any associated privileges as of the date the qualifying credential terminated.
IFS-Informed EMDR Certification Therapist Requirements
IIE-CT
1. EMDR certified (EMDRIA or international equivalent)
2. Completed SYZYGY Steps Two & Three
3. Completed 20 hours of IFS-Informed EMDR Consultation with an IIE-AC
post Syzygy Step Two
10 hours may be group, 10 must be individual
4. Attestation of 100 IFS-Informed EMDR client hours

1. Has met requirements for IIE-CT
2. Syzygy Training Component: Guided at least one time each for Syzygy Step Two & Three (must have attended all staff meetings during these)
3. Coherence Therapy Component: 12 CE of Coherence Therapy/Memory Reconsolidation workshops (prior approval by Syzygy CE Director required unless from coherencetherapy.org or therapywisdom.com)
4. IFS Component: any one of the following options
IFS Institute Level One Training
Completed Syzygy Step One plus 20 hours of IFS-only Consultation with an IIE-AC, or IFS-I Approved Clinical Consultant
Repeated Syzygy Step One three times as a participant, repeat participant or Guide. This option must include a Syzygy Trainer Recommendation.
5. Consultation Experience Component: any one of the following options
EMDR Approved Consultant
IFS Approved Clinical Consultant
other Clinical Consultation Qualification approved by Syzygy CE Director
Syzygy Guide 10 times
Completion of 20 IIE-CIT hours with an IIE-AC (this option must include a Syzygy Trainer Recommendation).
IFS-Informed EMDR Approved Consultant Requirements

You may apply for IIE Approved Consultant directly without applying to be IIE Certified Therapist if you meet all the qualifications for both. If approved, you then hold both designations. For this, you would use the Approved Consultant Initial Application form.
To upgrade from Certified Therapist to Approved Consultant you would use the Approved Consultant Upgrade Application form.

Certification Renewal
Recertification will require 12 hours of some combination of these items during your current active two-year certification period:
IFS-Informed EMDR related courses at emdrifs.com.
IFS-Informed EMDR courses from other providers pre-approved by Syzygy CE Director
Coherence Therapy courses at coherencetherapy.org.
Coherence Therapy courses from other providers pre-approved by Syzygy CE Director
Completing or being a PA for an IFS Level One, Two, or Three Training
Serving as a Program Guide for a Syzygy Institute course
Up to 6 hours of IFS-Institute approved CE that are not Level 1,2 or 3.
